Chapter 2. Operation

2.1 Names and Functions

Names and functions of the IBM 5400-006 printer are shown below:

2.1.1 Front View

Power Switch

Set the power switch to the (

│

) to turn the power on. When the IBM

5400-006 printer power is turned on, the power lamp lights and self-
diagnosis starts.

Connected to an AS/400 System: Depending on the initialization, the
printer enters Not Ready or Ready mode. The default is Not Ready For
more information about initialization, see 2.12, “Initializing the Printer” on
page 2-65. If the printer is in Not Ready mode, press Start on the
operator panel. The Start light comes on and printing is enabled.

Connected to a PC: The print light comes on and printing is enabled.

Set the power switch to the

Ο

side. The power light turns off.

Operator Panel

Used to perform the printing and set a mode. This panel consists of 12
switches, 9 indicator lamps, and an LCD. (For details of each switch and
lamp function, refer to 2.1.5, “Operator Panel” on page 2-5)


