C.2 Overview of Control Codes
C.2.1 Terms
The following explains terms that are used in describing control codes.
Hexadecimal numbers are shown by X

Line pitch refers to the amount of feed between lines of printing. The line pitch
returns to the default value when the printer is powered off.
Page length (or form length) is the distance from the beginning of a page to the
beginning of the next page. See control code FF, ESX, 04 n1 n2 c1 c2 (c3), or
ESC F. The page length returns to the default value when the printer is
powered off.
TOF (Top Of Form) is the position of the first printed line on the form.
Image data is graphic and character data that is sent directly to the printer
without being converted to code first. This data is sent from the system unit in
the form of data bytes (1 byte units).
The minimum dot pitch when printing is approximately 0.141 mm (1/180 inch).
If print data containing the control codes ESC %1 and ESC %2 is set beyond
the right margin, the part inside of the right margin is received and printed.
You can choose whether to discard the remaining data or to print it on the next
line in the default setting.
If operands (n1 and n2) used with ESC %1 and ESC %2 exceed the available
range, the data for the number of bytes of that control code and its operands
are ignored.
If unspecified control codes are appended to ESC codes, the control code is
ignored.
If the values of n, n1, n2, or m exceed the specified range, the control code is
ignored.
Control codes starting with ESX (X
'
1B 7E
'
) are extended control codes.
The printing area extension mode sets the maximum printing width to 13.6
inches (345). Normally, the maximum printing width of the Set Image Data is
13.2 inches (335).
C.2.2 Conditions to Start Printing
Print data is processed line-by-line or block-by-block. Printing can start when any
of the following codes are received by the printer.
