Configuring initial and subsequent nodes on HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx
Storage systems
This section provides initial installation instructions for HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx Storage systems.
IMPORTANT:
These installation instructions are intended for use with only those HP StoreAll 8xxx
and 93xx Storage systems that have never been configured and are installed with the current HP
StoreAll OS Software version (see
“Factory default and current HP StoreAll OS Software version
information” (page 7)
). If you already have a configured system and are upgrading your version
of the HP StoreAll OS Software, see the HP StoreAll OS Upgrade Guide for the software version
to which you are upgrading.
Before you begin configuring HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx Storage systems
Before you begin the configuration procedures in this section:
•
Review
“HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx Storage system prerequisites” (page 25)
.
•
Review
“Configuring HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx nodes with iLO” (page 55)
.
•
Review
“Verifying LUNs and component firmware” (page 57)
.
•
Make sure that the current version of the HP StoreAll OS Software is installed on the nodes
(see
“Factory default and current HP StoreAll OS Software version information” (page 7)
)
and that the server is not configured.
•
Make sure that the same version of the HP StoreAll OS Software is installed on all nodes
(servers), if other clusters exist in the storage system.
NOTE:
If you are installing HP StoreAll OS Software on existing clusters, use the procedures
outlined in the HP StoreAll OS Upgrade Guide.
•
Make sure that the AD server and the NTP server are synchronized with the same time, and
the AD server and the HP StoreAll cluster are configured to synchronize the time from the same
NTP server. During the installation process, you will be prompted to configure an NTP server
for time synchronization. However, after a cluster node is joined to a service, the cluster
attempts to synchronize the time with the AD server. If the NTP and AD servers are not
synchronized, this issue causes the cluster nodes to receive conflicting time updates, which
can lead to errors, such as file system creation failures.
•
Before installing the HP StoreAll OS Software onto the HP StoreAll 8200 Gateway system,
issue the Linux
pvdisplay
command, and make sure no duplicate volumes exist. If duplicate
LUNs exist in a cluster environment, block snapshots may fail during creation. Also, see
“Verifying LUNs and component firmware” (page 57)
.
Configuring HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx nodes with iLO
Nodes must be configured with iLO before completing the instructions in
“Configuring nodes and
a cluster on the HP StoreAll 8xxx and 93xx Storage system” (page 58)
.
To set up iLO on the HP StoreAll node, create an iLO account on each HP StoreAll node (server)
that is to be part of the installed cluster:
NOTE:
Instructions may vary slightly depending on whether a Gen7 or Gen8 node is used. For
additional node information, see node documentation at

1.
Using the keyboard, video, mouse (KVM), connect to the initial HP StoreAll node.
2.
Power on or reset (

) the node, and watch the boot messages. After the boot
message, (
