3B2-4 POWER STEERING COMPONENTS (MIDLAND)
BALL BEARING DIRECT DRIVE DESIGN
Remove or Disconnect (Figures 1, 5, and 6)
1. Carrier (183), slide out over the exposed shaft.
2. Drive pin (182) from the shaft keyway.
Important
• Mark the position of the locating pin (176), cam
(181), port plate (180), and end plate (177) for
reassembly reference.
: 3. Cam (181), locating pin (176), port plate (180), and
end plate (.177) by sliding the parts out of the pump
body pocket. Leave end plate seals (178 and 179)
in the end plate pockets.
4. Snap ring (163).
5. Shaft bearing sub-assembly (164 and 166). Slide
the shaft (166) and bearing (164) out of the body
casting, iLight tapping on the shaft may be required.
DO NOT use excessive force since bearing dam
age :may result (figure 5).
6. Seal (167) from the bushing body (169). Use a
small punch placed against the seal from the cam
pocket; side (figure 6).
BUSHING DIRECT DRIVE DESIGN
|<“+| Remove or Disconnect (Figure 1)
1. Carrier (183) and shaft (166) assembly as a unit.
The: carrier is restrained from sliding on the shaft
by wire snap rings.
Important
• Mark the position of the locating pin (176), cam
(181), port plate (180), and end plate (177) for
reassembly reference.
2. Cam! (181), locating pin (176), port plate (180), end
plate (177), and seals (178 and 179) by sliding the
parts ;out of the pump body pocket.
3. Seal! ,(167) from the bushing body (169). Use a
small: punch placed against the Seal from the cam
pocket side (figure 6).
CLEANING, INSPECTION) AND REPAIR
Clean
\
• All parts with clean solvent and blow dry.
Inspect (Figures 1 and 7)
• Shaft bushing for excessive burning, scoring, or
oversize condition. The bushing is NOT serviceable
as a separate component.
•Bearing bore for excessive burning, scoring, or
oversize condition. Maximum bearing bore ID is
40.03 mm (1.5760 inch).
• Bustling; body (169) for excessive burning or scor
ing.; Replace the bushing body assembly, if neces
sary. ,
• Bushing cover (188) for excessive burning, scoring,
or oversize condition. Replace the bushing cover
assembly, if necessary.
• Port face for excessive scoring or pitting. Lapping
or polishing of face to remove up to 0.050 mm
(0.002 inch) is acceptable. Use care to maintain a
. flat polished surface.
•Shaft (166) for any wear, burning, or scoring.
Replace the shaft if necessary.
• Bearing (164) (some models) for excessive wear
m
Measure
• Axial;"tip" with 0.254 mm (0.010 inch) maximum
• Seal (167) for excessive wear.
*• Gam (181) surface for wear or scoring. Polished
appearance is normal. Wear severe enough to
raise a burr on the ID corner indicates replace-
ment.
Important
• The cam (181), carrier (183), and roller vanes
(184) are serviced only as part of the pumping
element kit, .
