CLUTCH COIL AND HOUSING
ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
Remove or Disconnect (Figure 13)
Tools Required:
J 6435 External Snap Ring Pliers
7. Retainer
10. Coil

1. Clutch plate and hub assembly. Refer to "Clutch
Plate and Hub Assembly Replacement.”
2. Pulley and bearing assembly. Refer to "Pulley and
Bearing Assembly Replacement.”
• Mark or scribe the location of the clutch coil
(10) to terminal on the compressor front head.
3. Clutch coil assembly (10).
• Coil housing retaining ring (7) using J 6435.
Install or Connect (Figure 13)
Tools Required:
J 6435 External Snap Ring Pliers
1. Clutch coil (10) to the front head.
2. Coil and housing retainer ring (7) using J 6435.
3. Pulley and bearing assembly. Refer to “Pulley and
Bearing Assembly Replacement.”
4. Clutch plate and hub assembly. Refer to “Clutch
Plate and Hub Assembly Replacement."
MAJOR REPAIR TO THE COMPRESSOR
SHAFT SEAL REPLACEMENT
Remove or Disconnect (Figures 1, 14 through
19)
Tools Required:
J 6435 External Snap Ring Pliers
J 9393-A Seal Seat Remover and Installer
J 9553-01 O-Ring Remover
J 36048 Seal Remover and Installer
J 29640 Seal Protector
1. Clutch plate and hub assembly (1).. Refer to
“Clutch Plate and Hub Assembly Replacement.”
•Install J 29640 over the threaded end of the
shaft (26).
2. Felt ring metal retainer (25) (figure 14).
3. Clutch shims (3) (figure 15).
• Use J 9553-01 and a small screwdriver to pre­
vent the shim from binding on the shaft.
4. Shaft seal seat retainer (24) using J 6435 (figure
1 6 ) . . : , .
5. Shaft seal seat (23) using, J 9393-A (figure 17).
6. O-ring (22) using J 9553-01 (figure 18). :
7. Shaft seal using J 36048 (figure 19).
A. Insert J 36048 against the seal assembly.
. B. Press down against the seal spring and twist
the tool until the tongs engage the slots of the
seal cage. ■
C. Lift the seal from the shaft.
