DRIVE END FRAME
Disassemble (Figures 4, 5, and 6)
Tool Required:
J 28509-A Bearing Remover
• Hold the generator in a vise, clamping the mount
flange lengthwise.
• Scribe a mark to help locate the frame end parts in
the same position during assembly.
1. Four through bolts (17).
2. Rotor (11) and drive end frame
(22)
from the slip
ring end frame (3).

Place the rotor in a vise and tighten only enough to
permit removal of the pulley nut.

3. Nut (28) and the washer (27) from the shaft.
4. Pulley (26), collar (25), fan (24), and outside collar
(23) from the shaft.
5. Drive end frame (22) and the inside collar (20) from
the rotor shaft.

. Three screws (29) and the retainer plate (19) from
the end frame (on models so equipped) (figure 5).
• Press the bearing from the end frame.
7. Slip ring end bearing (4) (on some models) from
the rotor shaft Using J 28509-A (figure 6).
•Some models have a pressed on race that
should not be removed.
SLIP RING END FRAME
Disassemble
1
. Three rectifier bridge nuts (7).
2. Stator (18).
3. One bolt (15) from the brush holder and two insu
lated screws (12, 13) from the regulator connector.
4. Brush holder (9), regulator (16), and connector (10)
from the end frame (figure 7).
EARLY MODELS:
5. BAT terminal nut (36) from the insulated heat sink
(figure 8).
6
. Two bolts (6) and washers from the grounded heat
sink.
