PRIMARY RACK PISTON

Tool Required:
J 21552 Rack Pinion Arbor
Inspect
1.

4.
5.
Worm (33) and rack piston (50) grooves and all balls
(49) for scoring. Replace as a matched assembly.
Seal (9) and ring (10) for wear.
Ball return guide halves (46) for cracks and damage.
Bearing (35) and races (34) for scoring and
excessive wear.
Rack piston (50) teeth and external ground surfaces
for scoring or excessi ve wear. If condition exists,
replace the rack piston (50) and worm (33).
Assemble
1. New Seal (9) and ring (10) to rack piston (50).
• Lubricate new seal (9) and ring (10) with
power steering fluid.
