Troubleshooting Rear Window

(Captions) Option
No Rear Window

In XD20, verify that the correct content that has been loaded contains the captions for the show
you are playing. Remember, captions are not included on feature discs, they are received on a
separate access disc. Check the listing on this disc to confirm it contains captions; not all access
discs may have captions.
2.
The Rear Window™ captions equipment must be connected to the COM1 connector on the rear
panel of the XD20.
3.
Verify that the captioning equipment is powered on.
4.
Verify that the XD20 TIMECODE indicator is illuminated when playing the film.
5.
Verify that the XD20 SERIAL indicator is illuminated.
6.
Verify that the COM 1 cable is securely connecting the XD20 to the caption system. Check the
cabling for broken wires.
7.
To test select “Bill & Buzz” in the Audio test section in the setup menu of the XD20, when this
test is played the front panel should have the “serial” LED illuminated. If this is on and no titles
are being displayed problem is most likely with the caption display equipment.
8.
Refer to the caption playback equipment manufacturer for test procedures and troubleshooting
guidelines.
Troubleshooting Narration Option
No narration audio
1.
In XD20, verify that the correct content has been loaded which contains the narration for the
show you are playing, remember narration audio is not included on feature discs, they are
received on a separate access disc, check the listing on this disc to confirm it contains narration,
not all access discs may have narration.
2.
Verify that the narration transmitter is powered on.
3.
Verify that the narration headsets are connected and their volume is turned up.
4.
In XD20, verify that the Narration show is loaded on the hard drive and is enabled.
The Narration audio output connector on the rear of the XD20 must be connected to the narration
transmission equipment.
5.
Verify that the XD20 TIMECODE indicator is illuminated when film is playing.
6.
Verify that the XD20 NARRATION indicator is illuminated.
7.
Enable the CSS self-play test “1K @ -20dB FS” (found under
Setup
→
Audio
→
Level
Adjustment
→
Reference Tone
)
.
Use the right arrow button to select Ch 9 (Narration).
Verify
300mV RMS (±10mv) output at NARRATION OUT. If there is no output, replace the H222
board. If there is output, refer to the transmitter manufacturer for the test procedure.
