Connecting variable output modules (SSR)
Before You Begin
IMPORTANT:
A disconnect switch must be installed to interrupt Power to L1 and N/L2 electric Power
lines before connecting the system’s main inputs on the variable output modules (SSR). It
must be in close proximity to the equipment and within easy reach of the operator. It must
be marked as the disconnecting device for the equipment. From the Power source, follow
the wiring diagram to connect the main voltage supply to the variable output modules
(SSR). AP/Cumberland recommends using a DPST disconnecting switch in series with a
breaker. In the case of the use of a SPST disconnecting switch, connect SPST disconnect-
ing switch to cut the Hot line with a Neutral circuit case.
WARNING
If the disconnecting switch or the circuit breaker is used as a sectioning device, the
device must be correctly identified with which function of the controller opens the
circuit. The Off or Stop and On position must be clearly identified on the sectioning
device.
CAUTION
Disconnect supply before servicing
WARNING
Lock the enclosure when wiring is complete or when servicing. Use the nut and bolt
included or a padlock (not included) to lock the enclosure.
1. From the Power source, follow the wiring diagram to connect the main voltage supply to the variable
output modules (SSR).
2. Locate terminal 1 on the variable output module (SSR).
3. Pass the voltage source (L1) wire through the hole in the current sensor before connecting the wire
to terminal 1 on the variable module.
4. Connect one load from terminal 2 to the variable module.
5. From the load, connect to the main voltage supply return terminal 3 (L2/N).
IMPORTANT:
The maximum voltage on the variable output module (SSR) is 240Vac. The maximum
current allowed is 16.66A at 120Vac.
WARNING
High voltage variable output modules (SSR) terminal blocks accept a gage
range from 12AWG to 16AWG. Only copper wire can be used with variable
output modules (SSR). The conductor can be stranded or single-stranded.
See
Technical Specifications, page
to know the Variable output module (SSR) ratings according
to the load used and the possible load configuration. Refer to your local building code to determine
the type and quality of cable required. A minimum voltage rating of 300V and a minimum tempera-
ture rating of 90°C is used for the wires.
See the wiring diagrams to know how to manage the use of many phases from the main voltage
supply and how to wire loads in parallel.
NOTICE
For the big terminal blocks connected on the variable module (SSR), use a
tightening torque from 1.9N*m (16.8lbf*in) to 2.2N*m (20lbf*in) to fasten a wire
gage from 12AWG to 14AWG.
