Chapter 12: Ventilation operation
rotation. The rotation check box in the Power ventilation grid is disabled (grey) when this condition is not
met.
When fans are used in rotation, their minimum and maximum capacity for the stage must be identical.
Changing the minimum or maximum capacity on one fan group affects the other fans used in rotation in
the stage
This rule applies to both variable and On/Off fans. There can be more than one set of fans used in rotation
in one stage - as long as there are at least two fan groups with the same CFM, rotation is available. When
there is more than 2 groups of fans assigned for rotation, many groups of fans can be assigned to work at
once. For example, if 4 groups are assigned for rotation, you can set the controller to have 1, 2 or 3
groups of fans to run at the time. When using rotation, calculated stage CFM must take into account the
number of fans used at the same time. Fan rotation occurs every cycle time, even if fans are used at
100%.
At each cycle, the controller figures out which fan groups are assigned to turn on and which are off.
Minimum run time on a cycle
A fan is not allowed to run for less than 15 seconds. When multiple fans have to start at the same time,
there is a delay of 5 seconds between each of them to prevent unexpected circuit breaker openings. To
prevent decreasing the fan run time on short cycles, and thus reducing the total ventilation, a delay of 5
seconds is added between fan stops.
Minimum ventilation in Power ventilation
With setting mode fixed CFM —
Minimum ventilation is expressed in CFM and is initially set in the venti-
lation setup. This value is later used to calculate the stages temperatures in the ventilation grid
With setting mode fixed CFM per head —
When fixed CFM/head has been selected in the ventilation
setup, the number of animals in the house/barn is used to calculate minimum ventilation
With setting mode variable CFM per head —
When variable CFM/head mode has been selected in the
ventilation setup, the number and the age of the animals in the house/barn is used to calculate minimum
ventilation and Power bandwidth - minimum CFM/head and bandwidth are on a curve
You also have to select a curve in the ventilation setup page (or create one with the Curve Editor in the
main menu). The rules for the last two cases are as follows: Minimum ventilation = CFM/head x number
of heads.
NOTE:
The number of animals multiplied by the CFM/head has to fall within the capacity limits of a stage
of the grid. It might be stage 1 or any of the following stages. If number of animals is changed,
minimum ventilation CFMs are adjusted in the operation. There might not be any animals in the
house/barn yet. If this is the case, minimum ventilation value by default is determined based on
house/barn size or as 3 x CFM/head. The controller will select minimum capacity of the next stage
if the number of animals multiplied by the CFM/head falls in a gap between two stages
Minimum ventilation night reduction
Minimum ventilation can be reduced at night.
Day and night reference times are set during initial configuration. Night reduction settings can be adjusted
in the Power ventilation menu.
