Chapter 12: Ventilation operation
NOTE:
Natural stage start, stop, and maximum temperature can be edited in the ventilation grid, accessi-
ble through any ventilation mode setup page. They are reference temperatures and each inlet can
be adjusted according to these temperatures in the ventilation grid. The Natural inlet offset is a
parameter that relates an inlet to the Natural stage setting. It can also be edited in the ventilation
grid The Natural stop temperature is a reference temperature where Natural inlets close
completely.
IMPORTANT:
In a fully naturally ventilated building, make sure to set the stop Natural at a temperature
that is low enough to allow complete minimum opening, and makes the inlets close only
when the temperature is reasonably lower than the set point.
Natural ventilation parameters
Natural offset —
The Natural offset allows to relate to the Natural ventilation stages to the house/barn
set point and to the Power ventilation settings.
Natural bandwidth —
Natural ventilation bandwidth is the difference in degrees between the house/barn
temperature where Natural ventilation starts to open (corresponding to Minimum % Open) and the house/
barn temperature where its maximum temperature (corresponding to Maximum % Open) is reached.
Bandwidth is independent of animal number, but dependent on animal age. When animals are young, the
system requires a higher bandwidth react slowly to a house/barn temperature change in order to prevent
from chilling younger animals. As animals get older, the system requires a lower bandwidth to react faster
in order to prevent the animal from heat stress.
Minimum opening —
Minimum opening is the opening following the inlet’s first move. In a fully Natural
ventilated house, this opening is the opening that must be maintained at all times for gas and humidity
exhaust and fresh air supply. The minimum ventilation required usually increases as animals grow.
Outside temperature —
Natural inlet is not allow to open if outside temperature allowing Natural is not
reached.
Animal age —
Animal age is considered when Natural ventilation curve is selected in the Natural ventila-
tion setup. Then Natural Offset, Natural Bandwidth and Outside Temperature allowing Natural can vary
with age, if a Natural ventilation curve is selected in the Natural ventilation setup. As animals get older,
the Natural ventilation settings can be are calculated and adjusted every hour, automatically, following a
preset curve . See
. Even if a curve is not used, animal age is used to prevent
natural inlets from opening if the animal age selected by the user has not been reached.
Natural inlets
Each Natural inlet in Natural ventilation can have its own inlet offset. Each Natural inlet has its own start,
stop, and max temperature in relation with the Natural stage settings:
• Start temperature of inlet x = Natural stage start tempe inlet offset
• Stop temperature of inlet x = Natural stage stop tempe inlet offset
• Max temperature of inlet x = Natural stage max tempe inlet offset
All temperatures and opening settings of Natural inlets are accessible in the ventilation grid, which can be
accessed from any ventilation mode setup.
