Chapter 8: Equipment configuration
Calibrating a bird scale weighing platform
Before configuring and performing setup, you must first calibrate the bird scale weighing platforms.
All instructions and controls are displayed on screen at once to allow quick periodic calibration as
needed. If you change measuring units, the conversion must be done on the spot for measured and
known load weights. The calibration instructions are self explanatory. When entering calibration weight,
the system must tells you what units to use - the message in the keypad is contextual to the system units.
The following instructions are displayed on screen:
1. Clean the weighing platform. Make sure no weight is placed on it and that it is stable (not moving),
and then press Tare . The measured weight will be set to zero after a few seconds.
2. Place a calibration weight on the weighing platform. Make sure the platform is stable, and then enter
the calibration weight in the Calibration weight field on the right hand side of the screen, and then
press the Load button. Measured weight will become the calibration weight after a few seconds.
3. Press on the check mark on the bottom left hand side to complete the calibration.
NOTE: When pressing either the Tare or Load button, the bird scale module will take several samples
and converge to either the zero (tare) or calibration weight (load). However; if the signal is not
stable (platform is moving, animals getting on platform, ...) the calibration will time out after 10
seconds with a popup asking you to ensure the platform is not moving and retry calibration.
Configuring a bird scale weighing platform
1. Press on Weighing platform in the list of equipment on the left hand side of the screen and then
press on the icon.
2. Set the following parameters:
Name — Enter the name of the weighing platform
Expansion Box — Choose from the displayed bird scale Expansion Boxes in the drop down list
Input — Select the input from the drop down list
Calibration — Put a check mark once calibration of the platform is done
Current weight — Current weight shows dashes (—,—) until calibration has been performed since
Edge does not know the platform sensitivity (g/mv). Units are set at calibration time. They are dis-
played either in ounces, pounds, grams or kilograms depending on the unit type used by the system
On/Off switch — When the switch is set to Off, the weighing platform tile is yellow and current
weight is not shown. No weight history is recorded when the switch is Off
Configuring an alarm relay
Alarm relays can be configured in production or service rooms so that alarms are triggered when parame-
ters are out of range.
1. Press on Alarm relay in the list of equipment on the left hand side of the screen and then press on
the icon.
2. Set the following parameters:
Name — Enter the name of your choice for the alarm relay. If the name is too long, it is truncated on
the tile
