4.10 SETTING THE SPRAY NOZZLE HEIGHT AND ANGLE
4.10.1 SETTING THE NOZZLE HEIGHT
IMPORTANT
: It is important to adjust the spray height in the field at the time of application for correct spray
overlap. Crop height should be checked periodically and boom height adjusted accordingly.
1. Make an initial nozzle height adjustment.
- 17" to 19" for 80
o
and 110
o
AI tips.
- 15" to 18" for 110
o
XR or ER tips.
2. With water in the tank, measure the individual spray
pattern coverage at the target height listed in step 1 above
(see Fig 4.11).
3. Adjust the boom height so that pattern overlap is
approximately 30% of the nozzle spacing for XR, DR
and ER 80
o
nozzles and AI 110
o
or 100% of the nozzle
spacing for XR and ER 110
o
nozzles.
NOTES:
Standard pressure tips require a minimum spray pressure
of 200 kPa (30 psi) for uniform spray distribution.
Extended range XR TeeJet and ER COMBO-JET tips
have excellent spray distribution from 100 to 400 kPa
(15 to 60 psi). The spray angle of the XR and ER tips is
wider than conventional tips at all pressures.
AI TeeJet tips have good patterns between 275 and
690 kPa (40 and 100 psi). Optimum pressures are
between 400 and 550 kPa (60 and 80 psi).
DR COMBO-JET tips have a good pattern between
205 and 690 kPa (30 and 100 psi). Optimum pressures
are between 275 and 550 kPa (40 and 80 psi).
If your sprayer is equipped with an Auto-Rate Control
System, be sure to adjust the high and low pressure
alarm set points to match your nozzles. Refer to your
Auto-Rate Controller Operator’s Manual for more
information.
