5.16 CHECKING THE SPRAYER BOOM CONTROL WIRING
HARNESS AND THE SOLENOID COILS - ONE CIRCUIT
NOT WORKING
NOTE: If all circuits are not working, refer to Section 7.5 of the Trouble Shooting section.
Use the following instructions to help diagnose boom control problems.
1. Indentify the circuit which is not functioning properly.
2. Activate the booms manually as shown in Section 5.12 of this manual. If the booms work correctly when run
manually, continue on in this section. If the problem is still there when running the booms manually, go to
Section 7.5 of the Trouble Shooting section.
2. Disconnect the sprayer main wiring harness from the tractor.
3. To check the circuit which is not functioning, using an Ohm meter, touch the pins shown in Fig. 5.26 to get a
meter reading.
If the problem is in the:
Left Inner Boom Fold - Circuit 1L - touch pins 12 & 20.
Left Inner Boom Unfold - Circuit 1L - touch pins 11 & 20.
Right Inner Boom Fold - Circuit 1R - touch pins 12 & 20.
Right Inner Boom Unfold - Circuit 1R - touch pins 11 & 20.
Outer Boom Fold - Circuit 2 - touch pins 9 & 20.
Outer Boom Unfold - Circuit 2 - touch pins 10 & 20.
Centre Section Down - Circuit 3 - touch pins 8 & 19.
Centre Section Up - Circuit 3 - touch pins 7 & 19.
Left Boom Tilt Down - Circuit 4 - touch pins 5 & 19.
Left Boom Lilt Up - Circuit 4 - touch pins 4 & 19.
Right Boom Tilt Down - Circuit 5 - touch pins 3 & 19.
Right Boom Lilt Up - Circuit 5 - touch pins 2 & 19.
If the meter does not move, there is a problem in either the wiring or the solenoid coil. To check the solenoid
coil, remove the electrical connector from the valve and using the Ohm meter touch the two prongs shown in
Fig. 5.27 for the particular circuit you are having trouble with. If the meter does not move, the solenoid is
faulty. If the meter moves, the wiring harness is faulty.
NOTE: It is possible to have a defective solenoid that tests good with the Ohm meter. To check this, use awire to
jump between the two ports of the electrical DIN connector and using the Ohm meter touch the two pins in the
harness connector for the particular circuit you are having trouble with. If the meter moves, the wiring harness
is good and the solenoid is faulty.
