Step 3: Calculate the Actual Application Rate
1. Divide the total volume sprayed by the area (acres or hectares) sprayed. This will give you the application rate
(gallons per acre or liters per hectare).
EXAMPLE: 40 gallons sprayed over 1/2 mile with a 80’ sprayer width (4.85 acres sprayed)
45 gal. = 9.28 gpa

Adjusting the Actual Application Rate
If this calibration procedure reveals that the actual application rate does not match the desired rate, the easiest
method of correction is to change the sprayer pressure or the tractor speed.
To increase the application rate:
- increase sprayer pressure or
- decrease travel speed.
To decrease the application rate:
- decrease sprayer pressure or
- increase travel speed.
