4.4.1.4 Updating Software Via an RS232 Connection
As with previous versions of the DigiVAC, software can be updated using an
RS232 connection. This plugs directly into the GUI CPU, and allows a service
engineer to install software from a computer’s serial port.

The connection is not as fast as using the ethernet connection, but it should still
only take five to ten minutes to perform a software update.
This method has the following advantages:
• Software can be installed from a computer that does not have an ether-
net card
• It is a familiar technique to service engineers who have experience of
updating DigiVAC software
• Theoretically software can be updated using a palm top, rather than a
laptop running Windows
®
95 or later (note that the software requires
at least 1Mb of memory)
Refer to Section 4.4.3 for a detailed description of how to update software
using this method.
4.4.1.5 Updating Software Via a Network Connection
The GUI CPU has a 10BaseT ethernet connection built into it, which can be
connected directly to a computer network.
