3.6.9 Removing and Replacing Main Drive Belt
In the unlikely event that the main drive belt becomes damaged or breaks, it
will be necessary to replace it to resume machine operation. The belt should
be checked as part of routine maintenance.
• check that there is a minimum amount of slack so that the belt does not
‘jump teeth’ over the pulley
• check for signs of wear or cracking
Procedure
1. Disconnect the DigiVAC from the mains power supply.
2. Remove the joint plates, top conveyor coupling plate, feeder belt clamp
plates and feeder clutch plates from the L/H side of the machine (see Sec-
tion 3.1.4).
3. Slacken the drive motor retaining nuts.

4. Using a suitable screwdriver as a lever, raise the motor assembly in it’s
adjustment slots and remove the drive belt from the pulley.
5. Remove the bin module drive belts from the bottom and second bin mod-
ules. With the tensioner plates removed it is possible to ease the drive belts
over the pulley assemblies without having to slacken the belt tensioner
pulleys.
6. Remove the main drive belt from the bottom pulley assembly.
7. Fit the new main drive belt and adjust the tension (see Section 3.6.10).
8. Re-assemble the machine in the reverse order of the disassembly proce-
dure.
3.6.10 Tensioning Main Drive Belt
The belt should be checked as part of routine maintenance.
• check that there is a minimum amount of slack so that the belt does not
‘jump teeth’ over the pulley - this is indicated by a loud tapping noise
which can be heard when the machine is operating
• check for signs of wear or cracking
