4.4.4.4 Establishing the Ethernet Connection
Procedure
1. Switch off the Mains On/Off Switch on the DigiVAC.
2. Switch the Mains On/Off Switch back on and open the rear door during the
startup beeps (this puts the DigiVAC in ‘boot mode’). When the beeps
have stopped, close the rear door.
3. On the computer, open the guisearch.exe file (this file is supplied with the
DigiVAC Product Support CD, Issue 4, in the folder digivac\soft-
ware\gui_utils). Double-click the icon to open the file.
4. The ‘Watkiss GUI Search’ window will open. Press the ‘Network Search’
button. The window will display all DigiVACs connected to the network
(see Figure 4:23).

5. Make a note of the IP address for the machine(s) you wish to update. (If
the computer is linked directly to one DigiVAC, then only this machine
will be displayed). This window will also show you the status of the ma-
chine(s) you wish to update: it should read
BOOT
.
6. Open the ‘Run...’ window from the Start menu, if you are using Windows
95 or later. Type
telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
(where the
x
’s are
replaced with the DigiVAC’s IP address). Press return.
• Windows 2000: When the Telnet window goes blank, press return
again.
• Windows 95 or 98: Press return again when the Telnet window
appears.
7. The window will display the text
[WALBOOT]
. This indicates that you are
now directly accessing the boot software currently installed on the Digi-
VAC. Type
h
and press return, to display the help menu (see Figure 4:24).

NOTE: The Network Search will not work if the Subnet Mask of the computer and
DigiVAC do not match: refer to Section 4.4.5 for more information.
