7.4.5.10 Test Pulse Duration Parameter
No test pulses when test pulse duration = 0 ms!
If you have set the test pulse duration of the digital power output to "0 ms (off)",
the PROFIsafe I/O module does not test the digital output cyclically (e.g., for an
short circuit or defect). The PROFIsafe I/O module only tests the digital power
outputs during a change of state. In this case, the digital power output only meets
the requirements for SIL3 according to EN 62061 or PL e according to EN ISO
13849-1 if the safe control switches off both digital power outputs at least every
24 hours at the same time for at least 1 second in an automatic test. The
PROFIsafe I/O module executes a test during the disconnection time and is
therefore able to detect errors at the outputs. Take into account the total time
needed to transfer the process image to the PROFIsafe I/O module when
configuring the disconnection time.
The digital power ouputs are tested each minute using test pulses. The Test pulse
duration parameter is used to set the duraction of the test pulse for one digital
power output.
If the test pulse duration is set to "0 ms (off)", the test pulse for the respective
digital power output is deactivated. In this case, the safety information must be
noted.
The test pulse duration must be adjusted if you, for example, when you connect a
capacitive load to the digital power output.
Each digital power output is switched off in the cycle of one minute to two
minutes for the maximum duration of the test pulse duration set. The PROFIsafe
I/O module tests whether the digital outputs can be switched off and whether there
are short circuits to external voltages on the output cable. Once the PROFIsafe I/O
module has detected that the test pulse was successful, the digital power output is
switched on again before reaching the test pulse duration.
Behavior of the PROFIsafe I/O module in the event of a failure
If an error is detected on a digital input or digital power output by the PROFIsafe
I/O module, the entire PROFIsafe I/O module is passivated by the process image
of all digital inputs being set to "0" and all digital power outputs being switched
off.
