10.2.2 Considerations with Normal-Phase Compatible Solvents and Additives
When running applications with normal-phase compatible solvents and
additives, observe also the information in this section on:
• Seal wash liquid
• Long-term shutdown
• Routine and preventive maintenance
• Testing the pump for leakage
Seal Wash Liquid
Use seal wash liquid that fulfills the following requirements:
• The seal wash liquid is miscible with the solvent that is used in the
pump.
• The seal wash liquid is compatible with the seal wash tubing.
• The seal wash liquid provides certain conductivity for reliable
performance of the seal wash detector.
For NP applications, isopropanol with 0.1% sulfuric acid is
recommended.
Long-Term Shutdown
To interrupt operation for a longer period and restart operation
afterward, follow the instructions in this section.
TIP Shutting down the device affects the operation of the system. When
shutting down the device, also observe the shutting down instructions
for the other Vanquish system modules and take appropriate action
(refer to the
Operating Manuals for the modules).
1. Flush the capillary connections in the Vanquish system modules.
Make sure that harmful substances are removed. Observe the
following:
Situation Action
No additive is used Flush the system with isopropanol. 100% acetonitrile
should not be used.
Flushing liquids should be minimum HPLC-grade.
Additive is used 1. Flush the system with several volumes of an
appropriate pure solvent (for example, 1.0 mL/min for
10 minutes with the standard system).
2. Afterward, flush the system with isopropanol.
