Active Directory Properties—General tab
The Active Directory Properties dialog box lets you configure an external Active Directory server that
is consulted when users log on to the security gateway through OOBA, inband, Client VPN, and
Clientless VPN. Clientless VPN features can also look up what groups contain a particular user on the
remote Active Directory server.

Active Directory Properties—Description tab
Optionally, provides an extended description. This information is useful to help track changes or it can
be used as criteria for searches.
The maximum length is 20,000 alphanumeric characters.

Active Directory Properties—General tab
Field Description
Name A unique name for the Active Directory authentication server record.
The maximum length is 256 characters.
Allowed characters include a-z, A-Z, numerals, periods (.), dashes (-), and underscores
(_). Do not include spaces in the name. The characters @,!,#,$,%,^,&,*,<,> and other
reserved characters are also invalid.
Join gateway to the Active
Directory domain Joins the security gateway to the to the same domain as the Active Directory server.
Primary domain
controller Domain name of the primary domain controller (PDC). This is the Microsoft Windows
server that maintains records for valid users on the network.
Backup domain
controller Domain name of the backup domain controller (BDC). This is the server that takes over
if the PDC is unavailable.
Administrator user name Account with administrator access able to add, remove, and update records in the
active directory.
Administrator password Password for the administrator account.
Caption An optional, brief description of the active directory server.
The maximum length is 128 characters.
For longer descriptions, use the Description field.
Test Server System wizard to test connectivity to the Active Directory server to verify the security
gateway is able to communicate properly for authentication.
