Alerting using notifications
Configuring SNMP1 notifications
SNMPv1 notifications contain a community field, which is a text string holding a value agreed upon
between a manager and the agents that it manages. The security gateway and any SNMPv1 managers
with which it communicates must both be configured to accept the same community string. The
administrator of the SNMP management station can assign a community value for the security
gateway to use.
Consult the SNMP management documentation for its configuration information. Configuration and
modification information for SNMPv1 traps is found in your product’s administrator’s guide.
Prerequisites
None.
To configure an SNMP V1 notification

In the SGMI, in the left pane, under Monitors, click
Notifications
.

In the right pane, on the Notifications tab, click
New > SNMP V1 Trap Notification
.

In the SNMP V1 Trap Notification Properties dialog box, on the General Tab, to enable the new
notification through SNMP V1 trap, check
Enable
.

In the Notification Name text box, type a name for the notification.

Optionally, in the Time Period drop-down list, you can select a time period in which the notification
will be valid.

To define the severity of the alerts necessary to trigger the notification, check the appropriate
Triggered by Event options.

In the Community text box, type a text string holding a value agreed upon between the manager
and the agents that it manages.

In the Host Address text box, type the host address provided by the SNMP system administrator.

In the Port text box, type the port number provided by the SNMP system administrator.

In the Caption text box, type a brief description of the notification.

Optionally, on the Description tab, type a more detailed description than you typed in the Caption
text box.

Click
OK
.

Optionally, do one of the following:

To save your configuration now and activate later, on the toolbar, click
Save
.
■
To activate your configuration now, on the toolbar, click
Activate
.
When prompted to save your changes, click
Yes
.

If you set the security level for triggering a notification to Alert, you can use the Alert Threshold
tab in the Rule Properties dialog box to control when alert events are logged.
