Inspect the Server Externally
1. Inspect the external status indicator LEDs, which can indicate component
malfunction.
For the LED locations and descriptions of their behavior, see “Locating Server and Component
LEDs” on page 18 .
2. Verify that nothing in the server environment is blocking air flow or making a
contact that could short out power.
3. If the problem is not evident, continue with the next section, “Inspect Internal
Server Components” on page 33 .

Inspect Internal Server Components
1.
Shut down the server from main power mode to standby power mode.
Determine how you want to shut down the server:
■
Graceful power down – Notify users and gracefully power down the system.
■
Emergency power down – Power down the system quickly.
See “Powering Down the Server” on page 76 for instructions.
2. Disconnect the cables from the server, remove the server from the rack, and
remove the server cover.
See “Preparing the Server for Component Replacement” on page 75 .
3.
Inspect the internal status indicator LEDs. These can indicate component
malfunction.
