C hecking C oolant Level
To check the co olan t level, the
vehicle m ust be parked on level
ground and the eng in e stopped.
C heck coolant level only w hen
coolant is cold.
The co olan t should reach the top
of the tab inside the fille r neck.
W arning!
• U se e xtrem e caution w hen
opening th e hood if th e re
are any signs o f steam or
coo lan t leaking from th e
cooling system .
• Do not rem ove pressure
cap on coo lan t reservo ir if
e n g in e te m p e ra tu re is
above 1 9 4 °F (9 0 °C ). A llow
e n g in e to cool dow n b efo re
rem oving cap. T h e coolant
reservo ir co n tain s hot fluid
and is u nder pressure.
• Using a rag, turn cap to
first notch to relieve ex­
cess p ressure. If opened
im m ed iately, scalding hot
fluid and steam will be
blown out u n d er pressure,
possibly causing personal
injury.
• Do not spill a n tifre e z e on
hot e n g in e parts. A n ti­
fre e z e con tains e th y len e
glycol w hich m ay burn if it
com es into con tact w ith hot
en g in e parts. You can be
serio u sly burned.
If co olan t has to be added, a
5 0 /5 0 m ixture of w ater and MB
a n tic o rro s io n /a n tifre e z e should be
added.
3 00 SE:
The drain plugs for the cooling
system are located on the right
side of the eng in e block and at the
bottom of the radiator.
400 SEL, 500 SEL:
T he drain plugs for the cooling
system are located on the right
and left sides of the engine block
and at the bottom of the radiator.
