The autom atic transm ission
selects individual gears auto­
m atically, depen de nt upon
• Selector lever position
• A ccelerator position
• V ehicle speed
Im portant!
W hen parking the car and before
w orking on the ve hicle with the
engine running, firm ly d epress the
parking brake pedal and shift the
selector lever into ” P ” .
Driving
The se le cto r lever is a uto m a tica lly
locked w hile in position ” P ” . To
m ove the selector lever out of
position ” P ” , the service brake
pedal m ust be firm ly depressed
before the shift lock w ill release.
S hift selector lever to the desired
position only w hen the eng in e is
idling n orm a lly and the service
brake is a pp lie d. Do not release
the brake until ready to drive. The
ve h icle m ay otherw ise start c re e p ­
ing w hen the selector lever is in
drive or reverse position.
A cc elera to r position
Partial thro ttle = early upshifting
= norm al acceleration
Full throttle = later upshifting =
rapid acceleration
K ickdow n (depressing the a ccel­
erator beyond full throttle) =
d ow nsh ifting to a low er gear =
m axim um acceleration. O nce the
desired speed is attained, ease up
on the a ccelera tor - the tran sm is­
sion shifts up again.
W arning!
It is d an g ero us to s h ift th e se ­
lector lever out of ” P” or ” N ”
if th e e n g in e speed is h ig h er
than idle speed . If you r fo o t is
not on th e b rake pedal, th e
car could a c c e le ra te quickly
forw ard or in reverse. You
could lose control o f th e car
and hit so m eo n e or so m e ­
thing. O nly sh ift into g ear
w h en th e e n g in e is idling
norm ally and w h en your right
foo t is firm ly on th e brake
pedal.
