7.4.4    Recovery Response to Received Signal 

Reconnect the disconnected optical fiber and check that the laser recovery 
takes no longer than 90 seconds. 

7.5  Input Sensitivity Test 

Connect an Attenuator between the optical input and output and measure the 
values as displayed in Table

7.6 Lab Test 

The lab test is designed to test the stability of the 

µ

SDM-1. It is not intended for 

specifications conformity and requires only basic equipment that is commonly used 
in test facilities. The parameters that should be measured are BER and transmission 
alarms. 

7.6.1   Necessary Equipment 

You will need the following equipment to perform this test: 

♦ 

PDH Analyzer, with 120 

Ω

 balanced interfaces, HDB-3 line code and  

2 Mbits/s rate. 

♦ 

SDH Analyzer (optional) with optical interfaces. 

♦ 

Cables (supplied by Lightscape Networks for the test). 

7.6.2    Test Equipment Setup for a Single 

µµµµ

SDM-1 

1. Connect the 

µ

SDM-1 to the SDH analyzer, using FC/PC optical patch cords. 

The connection is point to point, i.e., 

µ

SDM-1 West aggregate out to SDH In, 

µ

SDM-1 West aggregate in to SDH analyzer Out. If an SDH analyzer is not 

available, then use a single patch cord to link West aggregate out to West 
aggregate in (optical loopback). Set the SDH analyzer to 155 Mbit/s, “Out of 
Service” mode and performance monitoring.
