ODF Installation 

D.1  The Optical Distribution Frame (ODF) 

The Optical Distribution Frame (ODF) serves as the physical interface between the 
optical fiber main cable system and the network element site, providing precision 
positioning and support for the element’s optical fiber junction. 

The ODF consists of the following elements: 

♦ 

Cable termination module with splice rack. 

♦ 

Fiber spooler. 

D.2  Cable Termination Module 

The ODF cable termination module houses the cable splice tray. This provides the 
optical junction of the fiber main cable to the patch-cord adapters via pigtail 
connectors. The standard 1U ODF module described in this manual houses up to 24 
patch-cord adapters. It is mounted in a dedicated 19” or ETSI rack or incorporated in 
a standard multiplexer rack installation. Custom designed 2U, 5U and wall mounted 
ODF modules are also supplied, providing up to 96 element connection optical 
adapters.
