2.2 Upgrade Paths

Changing the NE’s operational functionality can be done by a remote download of
new software to the NVM card (via the network management station). Like all
SYNCOM™ products, the NVM flash-card can store two software versions to
enable reversible upgrades.

Special services (e.g., data communications) can be added at any time installing
Tributary Expansion (TEX) cards to the basic unit. This, without having to upgrade
the basic hardware to add system functionality.
