16.4 Setting the knotter needles

The machine is shut down and safeguarded, refer to page 26 .
„ Place the knotter needles (1) so they are centered in the oblong holes of the needle yoke,
align then with the needle slots in the bale channel floor and fasten them in place with the
screws (2).
„
Trigger the tying process manually with machine at standstill, refer to page 123 .
„
Turn the flywheel manually in working direction ( refer to page 54 ) until the knotter needles
are taken up by the needle slots of the plunger.
„ In order to block the knotter needles (1) in this position, apply the flywheel brake, refer to
page 100 .
„
Move plunger laterally in that position using a mounting lever to check whether the needle
slots of the plunger laterally touch the knotter needles (1).
ð If the knotter needles (1) do not touch the needle slots, the knotter needles (1) are
correctly set.
If the knotter needles (1) touch the needle slots:
„ Loosen the screws (2).
„
Align the knotter needles (1) to the needle slots of the plunger and tighten the screws (2).
„
Release flywheel brake and turn flywheel manually in working direction.
„
During opertion, check whether the knotter needles (1) are taken up centrally by the channel
slots and whether they slightly rest against the knotter frame on the right side in direction of
travel.
If the knotter needles (1) do not lie centrally in the channel slots:
„
Apply flywheel brake refer to page 100 .
„ Loosen the screws (2).
„
Align the knotter needles (1) to the channel slots and tighten them with screws (2).
