12.5.1 Measurement of the Wall Thickness

M* This display appears after calibration, if wall
thickness was selected as the quantity of
measurement. When there is no valid
measuring value, the unit of measurement
and a question mark are shown on the
lower display line.

M* Firmly press the probe bearing a film of the
acoustic coupling component against the
test piece (the pipe) for the measurement of
its wall thickness. As soon as a valid
measuring value has been obtained, a tick
sign and the thickness will be shown.
Note:
The actual sound velocity of a material often differs substantially from the values
published in the literature.
To minimise errors during the measurement
of the wall thickness:
•
Adjust the values stored in FLUXUS
according to the actual sound velocity of
the test piece, using a comparative block
of known dimensions of the same
material.
•
The comparative block should be even
and plain.
•
The thickness of the comparative block
should be equal to the maximum
thickness of the test piece (the pipe).
•
Enter the thickness of the comparative
block in program branch PARAMETER.

Measure the sound velocity of the
comparative block.
