Entering the Gateway Address
The ISX 5312/5314 supports a single Gateway for packet routing. If the packet
destination is on the same subnet as the ISX 5312/5314, the packets are sent directly to
the destination. If it is not on the same subnet, the packets have to be routed to the
destination through the Gateway. To enable this feature, you must enter a Gateway
address and a Subnet Mask. The Subnet Mask determines whether the destination is on
the same subnet as the ISX 5312/5314. If it is on a different subnet, the packets are
routed through the Gateway. The ISX 5312/5314’s default Gateway address is
000.000.000.000
. If left at the default setting, packets with destinations in other subnets
are discarded. Any valid IP address can be used for the Gateway address.
To enter the Gateway address, starting from the Top Level menu, press the buttons
beneath
Addr/IPAdr/GateW
. You can then enter the Gateway address in the same manner
described in the “Entering the Unit’s Local IP Address” section, Steps 4 - 6.
Entering the Subnet Mask
The Subnet Mask is a bit mask that indicates the bits of an IP address to be interpreted as
the subnet address and the bits to be interpreted as the device within the subnet. The
ISX 5312/5314’s default Subnet Mask is
255.255.255.000
, where 255 defines the subnet
and 0 defines the device within the subnet.
Note:
When connected to an INX-NTS, the Subnet Mask should be set to
255.255.255.000.
To change the Subnet Mask, starting from the Top Level menu, press the buttons
beneath
Addr/IPAdr/Mask
. You can then enter the Subnet Mask in the same manner
described in the “Entering the Unit’s Local IP Address” section, Steps 4 - 6.
Enabling Traps
The ISX 5312/5314 allows you to direct traps to one SNMP manager. To enable this
feature, you must enter the IP address of the manager you want to receive traps. To do
so, starting from the Top Level menu, press the buttons beneath
Addr/SNMP/MgAdr
.
You can then enter the IP address in the same manner described in the “Entering the
Unit’s Local IP Address” section, Steps 4 - 6. .
To view the port numbers used by this manager’s UDP (User Datagram Protocol) service
source port and destination port, starting from the SNMP Address submenu, press the
button beneath
Port#
. Then press the button beneath
Src
to view the source port number
or the button beneath
Dest
to view the destination port number
The ISX 5312/5314 can have traps directed to multiple managers. The front panel
allows you to set only one manager’s IP address. Additional addresses can be set via the
SNMP interface.
