Automatic Dial Backup Failures

If the dial backup process fails after trying to establish a connection for 60 seconds, the
ISX 5312/5314 sends a DBU Timeout alarm to the network management system.  It then
waits 30 seconds and retries the backup connection.  This process continues until one of
the following occurs:

•

The backup connection is established

•

The dedicated line is back in service

•

A total of five attempts are made to establish the backup connection

If a total of five retry attempts are made unsuccessfully, you must use the RTN feature to
re-enable automatic dial backup mode.

In addition to sending an alarm to the network management system, the ISX 5312/5314
also logs the alarm, and sends it to the unit front panel (if the DSU Alarm parameter is
enabled).
