Excalibur ISX 5312/5314 T-1 Multiplexer Installation and Operation
1-12
For security purposes, access from Telnet is protected by a user-configurable logon
sequence consisting of a user identifier and a password. A Telnet session is established
only if the logon entries match the user identifier and password stored in the non-volatile
database of the ISX 5312/5314. The ISX 5312/5314 supports only one user identifier
and one password. Once the Telnet session is established, the user may log off at any
time by pressing the logoff key. Optionally, the ISX 5312/5314 may initiate the logoff
sequence automatically if no activity is detected for a user-selectable time period. The
ISX 5312/5314 allows only one Telnet session at a time. The ISX 5312/5314 responds
with a Busy message to additional Telnet session requests.
By entering commands from the ISX 5312/5314’s front panel, you can change the user
identifier and password required for access from Telnet. You can also specify the
amount of time a Telnet session may remain inactive before it is automatically
terminated by the ISX 5312/5314. Telnet supports all features and tests available from
the unit’s front panel.
Note:
The NMI port configuration parameters (protocol, speed, NTS), IP address, and
Gateway address should not be changed using Telnet. Changing these parameters results
in terminating the client session.
The Excalibur ISX 5312/5314 complies with the following RFCs:
• RFC 854 - Telnet Protocol Specification.
• RFC 855 - Telnet Option Specification.
Front Panel Emulation
A Front Panel Controller Application for Windows 3.1/ Windows 95/ Windows NT is
available from Milgo. The application provides remote front panel access to SNMP-
managed ISX 5312/5314s from your Windows workstation. Access to the application is
provided via a direct connection, or a dial modem via the NMI port, or SNMP via
PPP/SLIP on the NMI port, or SNMP over Ethernet. By entering a remote unit’s
Internet Protocol (IP) address or host name, you can perform operating procedures as if
you were sitting at that unit’s front panel. The application provides:
• Graphic display of the unit’s front panel
• Community string security
• Automatic screen update
• Configurable timeouts
• Windows socket interface
