Defining Operating Parameters
4-63
The following sections describe each alarm. (Refer to AT&T Accunet T1.5 Service and
AT&T TR 54016 for additional information.)
Red Alarm
A Red or Loss of Frame (LOF) alarm is defined as an incoming detected failure of a
carrier system. It may be triggered by a continuous loss of framing or by an intermittent
out-of-frame condition in an incoming signal. The ISX 5312/5314 generates a Red
alarm upon the detection of 2.5 seconds of a Loss of Signal (LOS) or an Out of Frame
(OOF) condition. If the LOS or OOF is intermittent, a rise slope type integration process
is used to determine the Red alarm. If the ratio of a LOS or an OOF to a normal signal is
greater than 1 to 5, a Red alarm is declared. The alarm is cleared when no LOS or OOF
conditions occur for a user-selectable time interval of 1-20 seconds.
When the ISX 5312/5314 declares a Red alarm, it transmits a Yellow alarm to the far
end via the outgoing bit stream. The Yellow alarm is transmitted continuously until the
Red alarm condition no longer exists. In a daisy-chained configuration, when the master
declares a Red alarm, it transmits a Blue (AIS) alarm to the daisy-chained slave(s).
Yellow Alarm
The ISX 5312/5314 declares a Yellow alarm for the amount of time it receives a Yellow
alarm signal. In a daisy-chained configuration, when the master declares a Yellow
alarm, it transmits a Yellow alarm to the daisy-chained slave(s).
Blue Alarm
The ISX 5312/5314 declares a Blue (AIS) alarm for the amount of time it receives a
Blue alarm signal. In a daisy-chained configuration, when the master declares a Blue
alarm, it transmits a Blue alarm to the daisy-chained slave(s).
Controlled Slip Alarm
A Controlled Slip is defined as the occurrence of a replication or deletion of a DS1 frame
by the receiving terminal. When the ISX 5312/5314 detects a Controlled Slip, it
generates a Controlled Slip (CSS) alarm. The alarm is cleared when the unit determines
that no Controlled Slips occurred in a frame.
