Defining Operating Parameters

Ring Signal Indicator

The Ring Signal Indicator parameter specifies whether the ring signal indicator is active.
The available options are 

Actve

 (Active) and 

InAct

 (Inactive).

T-1 Line Parameters

The DS1a and DS1b submenus provide the configuration parameters for T-1 lines A
and B.  The parameters are identical for both line submenus.  If your unit is equipped
with one T-1 line interface, the 

DS1b

 submenu does not appear on the screen.  This

menu also allows you to assign DS0 channels from the line A interface to the line B
interface and vice versa.  Each line submenu contains the following parameters:

•

Frame

•

Code

•

LBO

 - Line Build-Out

•

Chanl

 - Channel

•

Alias

•

Daisy

 - Daisy Chain

Frame

The Frame parameter specifies the framing format.  The available options are 

D4

 and

ESF

, as defined in AT&T 54016 and ANSI T1.403.  Both ESF specifications use the

same framing format, allocation of framing bits, and similar error statistics terminology.
The differences are in how information is passed between the terminal CSUs and the
integral Telco network devices such as the Telco line monitoring units (LMUs).

The APC feature can be enabled only when the Frame parameter is set to 

ESF

.  When

the APC feature is enabled, the ISX 5312/5314 will not allow you to change this
parameter’s setting on the DS1a and DS1b lines.  In these instances, instead of
displaying the options for this parameter, the screen displays the message:  

Invalid: APC

enabled

.

Code

The Code parameter specifies the method of line data encoding.  Four options are
available:  

B8ZS

 (Bipolar with Eight Zero Substitution), 

AMI

 (Alternate Mark Inversion),

AMIB7

 (Alternate Mark Inversion with Bit 7 Stuffing), or 

AMIZS

 (Alternate Mark

Inversion with Zero Suppression).  When the AMIZS option is selected, the sixteenth bit
position of a continuous stream of zeros is overwritten with a one.
