Unit Placement
The first step in installing the standalone Excalibur ISX 5312/5314 is to place it in
a suitable location. The ISX 5312/5314 can be placed on any stable, flat surface or it can
be mounted in a standard 19-inch (48 cm) equipment rack using the optional Rack
Mount Kit (Part No. 900-1213A-2). An optional Wall Mount Kit (Part No. 900-1219A-
2) is also available with the unit. Installation instructions are provided with both of these
kits.
Whether placed on a flat surface or in a rack, the installed ISX 5312/5314 must meet the
following requirements:
• The physical location must permit cable connections at the rear panel.
• The front panel must be accessible and visible.
• The air intake and exhaust must not be obstructed.
• The ISX 5312/5314 must be physically stable and protected from corrosive spray
or atmosphere.
Setting DTE Port Interface (Central Site Model Only)
The central site model transition board has four jumper blocks that specify whether each
DTE port provides an interface similar to a standalone ISX 5314 or an ISX 5010 access
multiplexer. The default setting is ISX 5314. If you want a DTE port to present an
interface similar to an ISX 5010, you must change its jumper position. This setting
enables you to connect to the DTE interface using the same type of cable used to connect
to an ISX 5010 DTE interface.
To set the jumpers, you must remove the transition board from the chassis. The jumpers
are located next to the DTE ports, as shown in Figure 2-1. To change the interface to
ISX 5010, remove the jumper and turn it so the red end points to
5010 .
