Chapter 2 Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3130 and 3032 for Dell Cisco IOS Commands
ip address
If your switch receives its IP address from a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) or a DHCP server and you
remove the switch IP address by using the
no ip address
command, IP processing is disabled, and the
BOOTP or the DHCP server cannot reassign the address.
A Layer 3 switch can have an IP address assigned to each routed port and SVI. The number of routed
ports and SVIs that you can configure is not limited by software; however, the interrelationship between
this number and the number of other features being configured might have an impact on CPU utilization
due to hardware limitations. You can use the
sdm prefer
global configuration command to reallocate
system hardware resources based on templates and feature tables. For more information, see the
sdm
prefer
command.
Examples
This example shows how to configure the IP address for the Layer 2 switch on a subnetted network:
Switch(config)#
interface vlan 1
Switch(config-if)#
ip address 172.20.128.2 255.255.255.0
This example shows how to configure the IP address for a port on the Layer 3 switch:
Switch(config)#
ip multicast-routing
Switch(config)#
interface gigabitethernet6/0/1
Switch(config-if)#
no switchport
Switch(config-if)#
ip address 172.20.128.2 255.255.255.0
You can verify your settings by entering the
show running-config
privileged EXEC command.
