9.2.5 Coordinate system of the SYEPS punching system
The zero point of the SYEPS system’s coordinate system is the lower mechanical
cylinder stop. It has position 0 mm in the lower, and position 40.000 mm in the
upper positive stop of the cylinder. In the negative direction of travel, the cylinder
moves downwards, in the positive, upwards. The positions must be entered in mm.
9.2.6 Reference position
The reference position is used to specify the position value of the upper positive
stop.
9.2.7 Punching operating modes
The following Fig. 60 shows a punching axis with mechanical stripper in tool change
position PTE. The punching cylinder is not mechanically connected to the punching
tool. The cylinder pushes both, stripper and punching tool, downwards. Since the
spring of the stripper is softer than the spring of the punching tool, the stripper
spring is compressed first during punching, and only when the metal sheet has
been clamped, is the spring of the punching tool compressed. The punching tool
is mounted so that when the punching tool spring is released, the punched edge
is always above the lower edge of the stripper. When the stripper contacts the
metal sheet while the punching stroke is performed, a resistance builds up for the
stripper that prevents it from moving on. Now, the spring of the punching tool is
compressed and the punching tool comes out of the stripper and punches through
the metal sheet. The point of reversal, PUP, of the punching tool is located so deep
in the bottom die that the punching slug falls down from the die. With the return
stroke, first the punching tool is pushed upwards by the spring force of the punching
tool spring. During this, the metal sheet is held down by the stripper and the tool is
stripped. When the tool spring is completely released, the punching tool is retracted
again in the stripper. The spring of the stripper pushes the stripper with the
punching tool upwards until the cylinder comes to a standstill in the position above
the metal sheet.
