Typical procedure
•
Adjust the brightness on the suspension system by starting with the
lowest value and gradually increasing the brightness level. Please observe
the maximum permissible brightness (see Page 20).
•
Adjust the eyepieces (see Page 84).
•
Swing the surgical microscope over the surgical field into an ergonomic
position within the working distance.
WARNING
Eye damage
Looking directly at the light source, e.g., at the microscope lens or light guide,
can damage your eyes.
•
Never look directly at the light source!
CAUTION
Retinal injury to the patient’s eye!
Excessive light intensity or overly long exposure times may lead to retinal
damage in the patient’s eye.
•
Adjust the illumination intensity and the resulting radiation exposure time
by selecting the appropriate illumination setting. You will find the values
recommended by ZEISS in the table “Maximum radiation exposure times”
on Page 20.
•
When operating on the eye, use the retina protection filter (blue barrier
filter). It protects the patient’s retina against unnecessary (blue) radiation
and increases the recommended exposure time by factor 3.
•
If no red reflex is required, swing the retinal protection device into the
beam path.
CAUTION
Variable light intensity due to a faulty light source!
A faulty light source with variable light intensity can damage the patient’s retina.
•
Check the light source and the brightness adjustment before each use of
the device.
•
Keep a backup lamp or an OR illuminator ready at hand.
•
If the light control fails, switch the device to manual mode (see Page 131).
