Hydraulic Brake Pad Wear Check
Periodic adjustment of the disc brake is not required be-
cause brake pad wear is automatically compensated. Peri-
odically inspect the brake pads to make sure the pads are
not worn excessively, which may cause brake damage and
faulty operation.
To cheek the brake pads, note the wear indication
groove in each brake pad
(Figure 13). If the wear groove
is not visible, refer to Chapter Eleven and replace the
brake pads.
Parking Brake Inspection
Periodically check the operation of the parking brake.
Refer to Chapter Eleven and
brake pad thickness
as described.
Throttle and Oil Cable Inspection
The throttle lever on the handlebar actuates the carbure-
tor throttle cable and the oil injection pump control cable.
The cable assemblies must be properly maintained to en-
sure correct throttle and oil pump operation. A malfunc-
tioning or damaged throttle cable may cause excessive
engine damage.
Support the snowmobile so the skis are
ground.
2. Open and secure the shroud.
3.
Disassemble the control cables at the throttle lever
(Figure 9). Check the end of each cable for fraying or
kinking. Replace the cable assembly if any inner cable
strands are broken.
4.
Check the cables for improper routing,
or
other damage. Make sure the cables enter the metal cable
receptacles properly.
5.
With
the cables connected to the throttle lever,
turn the
handlebar from side to side while checking the cables for
incorrect routing or other conditions that could cause the
throttle lever to malfunction during operation.
6. Operate the throttle lever. The lever should move
smoothly.
7. Turn the handlebar from side to side while operating
the throttle lever. The lever should move smoothly.
8. If the throttle lever failed to operate properly or
if the
throttle cable routing is incorrect, repair or correct the
problem before starting the engine.
9.
If the throttle cable is replaced, adjust throttle free play
as described in this section.
10. If the oil injection control cable is replaced, perform
the oil pump adjustment procedure as described in this
section.
Throttle Lever Free Play
Push in the throttle lever until free play is removed.
Measure the throttle lever gap as shown in
Figure
14. The
gap should be
mm (0.04-0.08
in.).
If it is incorrect,
loosen the throttle cable jam nut (A,
Figure 15) and turn
the cable adjuster
to obtain the correct throttle lever
free play. Tighten the jam nut and recheck the free play.
