10. Check the float for fuel saturation, deterioration or
excessive wear where it contacts the float
arm. Replace as
required. If the float is
in
good condition, check it for leak-
age as follows. Fill the float bowl with water and push the
floats down. There should be no signs ofbubbles. Replace
the float if necessary.
11.
Inspect the throttle shaft bearing and seal in the carbu-
retor body
(Figure 34) for excessive wear or damage.
If
the bearing or seal is excessively worn or damaged, re-
place the carburetor body.
CAUTION
The jets must be scrupulously clean and
shiny.
Any burring, roughness or
could cause
a
lean mixture that could result
in
major engine damage.
8. Check the movement of the float arm on the pivot pin.
It must move freely without binding.
9. O-ring seals tend to become hardened after prolonged
use and heat and therefore lose their ability to seal prop-
erly. Inspect all O-rings and replace if necessary.
Assembly
Refer to
Figure
1. Clean and inspect the carburetor assembly as de-
scribed in this chapter.
2. Install the pilot jet (Figure 32) and sleeve.
NOTE
Make sure
the groove
(Figure
35) in the
needle jet fits around the pin
(Figure
36) in
the
3. Install the needle jet through the top of the carburetor
so it protrudes through the bottom of the carburetor as
shown in
Figure 29.
4.
Install the O-ring
(Figure 37) onto the fuel inlet valve
seat and install the valve seat into the carburetor body. In-
stall the valve seat retaining screw
(Figure 31).
5.
Suspend the fuel inlet valve by the clip from the float
tang
(Figure
then install the float and inlet valve.
6. Install the float pin
(A, Figure
30).
7. Install the main jet (Figure
28) and ring.
8. Check and, if necessary, adjust the float height as de-
scribed in this chapter.
9. Install the float bowl
(Figure 27) and gasket.
