CHAPTER TWELVE

Loosen the
bearing lock collar setscrews

Remove the nuts, washers and bolts securing the bear-
ing flanges to the bulkhead

Inspection
1. Clean the jackshaft in solvent and thoroughly dry.
2. Check the jackshaft for bending.
3. Turn
the bearing and check for excessive wear or
roughness. Replace the bearing if worn or damaged.
Check the keyway in the
for cracks
or other
damage.
5. Inspect the splines for excessive wear and damage.
6. Check both ends of the jackshaft for cracks, deep
scar-
ing or excessive wear.
7. If there is any doubt as to the condition of the jackshaft,
repair or replace it.
Installation
Insert the jackshaft into the frame.
Install the
bearing and flange assembly.
3.
Tighten the bearing flange nuts securely.
4. Tighten the bearing collar setscrews securely.
5.
Install the snap
ring

and washer
6.
Install the brake disc as described in Chapter Eleven.
7. Install the secondary sheave as described in
Ten.
FRONT AXLE
Removal
Remove the drive chain and sprockets as described in
this chapter.
