CHAPTER FIVE
10.
Unscrew the retaining screw (A, Figure 31) and re-
move the fuel inlet valve seat (B) and O-ring.
11.
Remove the pilot jet (Figure 32) and sleeve.
12. Clean and inspect the carburetor assembly as de-
scribed in this chapter.
Submersing the carburetor housing assembly in a car-
buretor cleaner damages rubber O-rings, seals and plastic
parts.
1. Clean the carburetor castings and metal parts with
aerosol solvent and a brush. Spray the aerosol solvent on
the casting and scrub off any gum or varnish with a small
bristle brush.
2.
After cleaning the castings and metal parts, wash
thoroughly in hot water and soap. Then rinse with
water and dry thoroughly.
3.
Inspect the carburetor body and float bowl for fine
cracks or evidence of fuel leaks. Minor damage can be re-
paired with an epoxy or liquid aluminum type filler.
4. Blow out the jets with compressed air.

it.
5.
Inspect the tip of the fuel inlet valve for wear or dam-
age (Figure 33). Replace the valve and seat as a set
if they
are less than perfect.
NOTE
A
damaged fuel inlet valve results in flood-
ing of the
and im-
paired performance. In addition, accumu-
lation of raw gasoline in the engine com-
partment presents a severe fire hazard.

Inspect the pilot mixture
taper for scoring and
replace it if less than perfect.
7. Inspect the
for internal damage and damaged
threads. Replace any jet that
is less than perfect. Make cer-
tain replacement jets are the same size as the originals.
