Remove the container from the heat and allow it to
cool down. When the water cools to below
the meter should indicate no continuity.
8. If the thermoswitch does not provide the readings as
specified, replace it.
9.
Reinstall the thermoswitch in the cylinder head and re-
connect its leads. Refill the cooling system as described in
Chapter Three.
THROTTLE OVERRIDE SYSTEM
All models are equipped with the
Throttle
Override System (TORS). The TORS
monitors
the throttle and carburetor lever positions using
The TORS system consists of a microswitch at the
throttle lever and a microswitch at the carburetor
(Figure
40). If the switches are not in the correct position, the
ground to the CDI unit is interrupted and the engine will
turn off. If the carburetor or throttle cable should malfunc-
tion during operation, removal of the rider's thumb from
the throttle lever will deactivate the throttle switch and the
engine will
turn
off.
If a rider should fall off of a snowmo-
bile with the TORS system, the engine will return to idle.
If the engine does not return to idle, the TORS system will
turn the engine off.
Two microswitches are used. One at the throttle lever
and one at the center carburetor The carburetor switch is
triggered by
with the carburetor linkage. See
Fig-
ure 40.
Throttle Switch
The throttle switch is mounted in the right handlebar
switch assembly
(Figure 33). If the switch is damaged, re-
place the complete right handlebar switch assembly.
1.
Remove the rear handlebar cover.
2.
Disconnect the right handlebar switch electrical con-
nector.
3.
Set an ohmmeter on the

scale.
4. Connect the ohmmeter to the
and black
terminals on the handlebar switch connector. Test as fol-
