Maintenance and
This chapter covers all the regular maintenance re-
quired to keep a snowmobile in top shape. Regular main-
tenance is
best guarantee of a trouble-free,
long-lasting vehicle. Because
are
vehicles, proper lubrication, maintenance and
tune-ups have become increasingly important as in main-
taining a high level of
extending engine life
and extracting the
economy of operation.

make sure to follow the correct procedures and use
common sense. Always remember
engine damage
can result from improper
and adjustment. In addi-
tion,
special tools or equipment are called for dur-
ing a
maintenance or adjustment procedure,
make sure to use that tool or refer service to a qualified
dealership or repair shop.
Maintenance intervals are listed in
Tables 1-3. Recom-
mended lubricants and fuels are listed in
Table 4. Tables
1-18 are at the end of this chapter.
FRE-RIDE CHECKS
Check the machine before each ride. Refer to Chapter
One.
FLUID CHECKS
Check vital fluids daily or before each ride to ensure
proper operation and prevent excessive component dam-
age. Refer to
Table
1.
PROCEDURE
cylinder servicing (boring, honing or
rings) and major lower end work, perform an engine
break-in procedure as if it were new. The
service life of the engine depends greatly on a careful and
sensible break-in.
For the first 10- 15 hours of operation, use no more than
3/4 throttle and vary the speed as much as possible. Avoid
prolonged steady running at one speed, no matter how
moderate. Also avoid hard acceleration and
snow
conditions during break-in.
To ensure adequate protection to the engine during
break-in, pre-mix the first tank of
at a 50: ratio with
the same oil used in the injection system.
cle
or equivalent is recommended. Throughout the
break-in period, check the oil injection reservoir tank to
