Emprise 7000 Installation and Service Guide 92
Replacing an Emprise 7000 Controller
This procedure tells you how to move the battery-backed memory card, Fibre Channel and/or
iSCSI interface cards, Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) card, rails, and front grill
from the existing controller to the replacement controller.
.
1. Identify the failed controller using the following information:
•
Log messages
•
Email alerts
•
ActiveWatch alerts (if enabled)
•
Fault light on the front of the controller (floppy drive LED) flashes slowly
2. Shut down the controller:
a. In ICON Manager, select the Physical View for the system with the controller you want
to replace.
b. Click the controller and verify the serial number and IP address in the Controller Prop-
erties on the screen. Record the numbers for entering into the replacement controller.
c. Select Shut Down Controller from the actions pane. If this option is grayed out, push
and hold the power button on the front of the failed controller to shut it down.
3. Verify that the failed controller has powered off by checking that both power supply LEDs
have turned amber.
4. Make sure that all of the cables are properly labeled. When you have completed this
procedure, all cables need to reconnect in the same ports on the replacement controller.
5. Disconnect all cables from the failed controller, including the power cords.
6. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the controller in the rack.
7. Remove the failed controller from the rack and set it on an Electrostatic Discharge-safe
surface.
8. Remove the cover screw on the right side of the chassis. Remove the cover by pressing the
release tabs to release it from its locking position. Ensure the tabs are fully released before
sliding the cover off.
9. Remove the new controller from its shipping box and place it on an Electrostatic Discharge-
safe surface next to the old controller.
Caution:
To reduce the risk of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), put on a grounded wrist
strap when instructed to in this procedure and keep the wrist strap on for the
remainder of the procedure.
Note:
Initial shipments of the Emprise 7000 system will have a Model 4000 controller,
which you can tell by the model number on the controller chassis. To replace a
Model 4000 controller, see “Replacing a Controller” with the Magnitude 3D
3000/4000 documentation at http://support.xiotech.com.
