Emprise 7000 Installation and Service Guide 41
Connecting the System Controllers and ISE to
the Storage Fabric
Use redundant loops to connect both controllers to both sides of the ISE. This implementation
provides redundancy and also enables you to add more ISE without disrupting I/O to the existing
ISE. When cabling the ISE, orient the cable leads along a line with enough slack to permit the
removal of any FRU while the ISE continues to provide data services.
Caution:
Always handle the fiber cable by the plastic connectors and NOT by the cable
itself. This is especially important when disconnecting the cable, as it will be
damaged if the fiber channel is pulled out of the plastic connectors.
Note:
Before installing the cables, clean both the ends of the fiber cables and the
optical ports. For instructions, refer to “Cleaning Fiber Cables and Optic
Transceivers” in the Emprise Hardware Reference Guide.
Caution:
If you bend fiber cable too sharply, you will damage the cable and it will not
perform optimally. The minimum bend radius given by the FC specifications is 3
inches, although some vendors specify a minimum bend radius of 2 inches for
their product. In addition, to avoid damaging the fiber cable, do not roll
equipment or chairs over it.
