Emprise 7000 Installation and Service Guide 74
Removing an MRC
1. Determine the number and position of the MRC to be removed. Typically, the Status of the
MRC to be removed is not Operational. From the Physical View, click the MRC to see its ID in
the details pane. Or from the ISE’s CLI, type
show mrc
and note the number of the MRC to
be removed.
2. Note the IP address of the failed MRC. You will need to configure the replacement MRC with
the same IP address. To see the IP address, type
show network
from the ISE’s CLI.
3. If needed to locate the MRC to be replaced, you can flash its LED. From the ISE’s CLI, enter
the command:
--mrcx=<on|off>
where x is the number of the MRC obtained in step 1.
4. Prepare the MRC for removal: From the ISE’s CLI, type the
remove --mrc1
or
remove --mrc2
command depending on the number of the MRC you observed in Step 1.
When the MRC is ready for removal, the amber LED is ON and the green LED is OFF.
5. Disconnect the Ethernet and Fibre Channel cables from their connectors in the MRC by
gently pinching the cable latches and removing the cables.
6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the two screws securing the latch handle.
7. Open the latch handle fully to unseat the MRC.
8. Pull the MRC out of the chassis by its latch handle.
9. Open the latch handle on the replacement MRC.
10. Carefully remove the pin guard from the connector of the replacement MRC by gently pulling
the guard off the connector.
11. Visually examine the connector pins on the replacement MRC, taking care not to touch them.
If any pins appear bent or damaged, do not install this MRC.
Note:
The cooling design of the ISE requires that components be present in each
bay. Do not remove a failed component until the replacement has arrived to
minimize the time the ISE operates with a missing component.
Note:
If you are not performing data I/O, the ISE can be shut down or powered off at
this point in the procedure if desired. Note that using the shutdown function in
the ISE’s CLI places the ISE in standby mode.
Caution:
After removing the pin guard, exercise extreme care not to damage the
connector pins while handling the MRC. Bent pins can damage the backplane
of the ISE. Handle the replacement MRC by its latch handle and side frames
only.
