Emprise 7000 Installation and Service Guide 98
Install the NIC:
6. Put on the anti-static wrist strap and attach it to a grounded surface such as the rack
enclosure or the controller chassis. Keep the wrist strap on for the rest of this procedure.
7. Label all cables. When you have completed this procedure, the cables need to reconnect in
the same ports.
8. From the rear of the rack, remove the power cords from the controller power supplies.
9. From the front of the rack, remove the two screws (one on each side) holding the controller in
the rack.
10. Pull the controller forward until it stops.
11. Remove the controller cover: Remove the cover screw on the right side of the chassis. Press
the release tabs to release the cover from its locking position. Ensure the tabs are fully
released before sliding the cover off.
12. In the slot where the NIC will be installed, remove the screw from the PCI blank plate and
retain it for reuse. Discard the blank plate.
13. Remove the NIC from its packaging and insert it into the empty slot. Push the card down
firmly to make sure that it is properly seated. Secure the card with the screw removed in step
12.
14. Reinstall the controller cover.
15. Push the controller into the rack.
16. Reinstall the screws that secure the controller to the rack.
17. Connect the Ethernet cable to the NIC.
18. Do not reconnect the power cords or power up the first controller until you have upgraded all
controllers.
Upgrade the Next Controller:
19. For dual-controller systems, repeat the preceding steps for the next controller. To shut down
the last controller, select Shut Down Magnitude in the Physical View.
Activate the Controllers:
20. Reconnect the power cords to the controller power supplies.
21. If the controllers do not power on automatically, power them on. One of the controllers will be
activated automatically.
22. In the Physical View, click the controller that is not active and choose Activate Controller. A
message appears, prompting you to confirm that you want to activate the controller. Click
Yes. The controller comes online. Verify that there are no errors.
Connect the Controllers to Switch/Server:
See “Connecting Servers to the Emprise 7000” on page 45 and the iSCSI cabling diagram in
Figure 4-5 on page 46.
Configure iSCSI:
After the NICs are installed and connected to the servers, the customer can go to System Tools
in ICON Manager and configure the system for iSCSI.
