ESTING
Isolating problems with the display can be diffi cult due to the inherent design of
the overall LCD circuit since screen data generation (including color and charac-
ter mapping) and video control are shared between the mainboard and the LCD
assembly. However, loose cable connections account for most display related
failures in the fi eld. Very limited testing is available for display related failures.
It is highly recommended that a complete display assembly (including the in-
verter and inverter power cable) be kept on hand as spare parts. Either one can
be used (for TESTING purposes only, or as a direct replacement if the size cor-
responds directly with the faulty display).
The following is a basic list of failure scenarios, along with possible guidelines
that may help when troubleshooting problems with the display:
No Display (Black Screen - No Backlight)
+12vdc passes from the power supply to the docking board. From the docking
board, it is present at the inverter power connector (red wire) on the docking
board (pin 1 at J12 on the XScale version or J7 on the X2 version). From there it
is passed to the inverter (red wire at J1), which is mounted in the display assem-
bly (refer to Figure 3-48). The DC to AC inverter converts the in12vdc
to the low current, high voltage AC needed to power both backlights.
